Getting Muddy for MS
Every year around this time I start seeing chatter about Muckfest. Posts on social media always show teams of friends having the best time while getting muddy… and supporting the National MS Society. This year I received an email about the upcoming event and decided to reach out to local Madison Mom Jessica Doninger, who leads the WHOA WYATT team.
Take a moment to read what she has to tell us about the annual Muckfest… and think about joining the fun in support of the National MS Society.
Here is what Jessica shared with me:
In a few weeks the backhoes and earth movers will descend on Zarepath Christian Church grounds in Somerset, NJ and begin to dig and design the most fun 5k you will ever experience! Then on Saturday, July 20 Muckfest will take over!
Muckfest is a 5k mud run with 18 obstacles and 1000 ways to get you muddy (and then clean and then muddy again)!
This event is a fundraising effort put forth by the National Multiple Sclerosis Society and to date has raised over $30 million dollars for research and support for those of us living with MS.
The best part is that everyone can participate in Muckfest! Participants can be 10 and older and for those “Little Muckers” they have a space for them to get muddy too! It is a 5k for everyone! All levels of athleticism are welcome (translation we can ALL do it!!)
This will be Team WHOA WYATT’s 4th year participating in Muckfest and I look forward to it every year. I love the ability to get out on the course and spin, fly, climb and jump. As an MS Warrior myself, it also gives me the opportunity to bury MS in the mud!
I have seen first hand that the National MS Society puts their fundraising dollars to WORK! They fund cognitive research to better understand how MS effects each individual, they fund support groups to help each MS warrior feel supported by a community, and they send people to The Hill to fight for lower medication costs and more funding for a cure!!
Remember as a kid getting hollered at for playing in the mud?.....not anymore!!!
Some additional information from the organizers of MuckFest:
Previously called MuckFest MS, the event is now just known as MuckFest. Be assured they still donate 100% of fundraising dollars to the National MS Society and partner with them completely.

You can sign up online up until the day of the event, and even sign up on event day!
Since MuckFest started, more than 175,000 participants have raised over $30.7 million for MS research. 100% of the funds raised goes to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society’s efforts to bring an end to MS and to help those currently living with it.
MuckFest is open to every fitness level, and has a focus on fun and family. Runners can also walk, and people can skip any obstacle they like. However, the obstacles are super fun! They'll let people swing through the air and crawl through the dirt and have a one-of-a-kind experience. We even have a Lil' Muckers area for children too young to run in MuckFest, but who still want to try out some of the (child-sized) obstacles.
