The Sky Throne - Book Review
The Sky Throne was written by Chris Ledbetter. It is the first book in a young adult series. I was provided with a copy of the book in exchange for my honest review. All opinions are my own.
About the book:
Duality dwells at every turn, and an adolescent Zeus will learn that all too well when Hyperion attacks his family on Crete.
When the dust settles, his mother is unconscious and his best friend left for dead.
Stacking epic insult upon fatal injury, Zeus discovers the woman who raised him is not his biological mother. But to ensure her safety while she recovers, a heavy-hearted Zeus leaves her behind to seek answers at Mount Olympus Preparatory Academia.
Zeus embarks on a quest to discover who ordered the attack on his home, avenge the death of his friend, and find his birth mother. When some of his new schoolmates vanish, Zeus's quest is turned upside down, and the only way to make things right is to access the power of The Sky Throne, confront a most dangerous enemy, and take his life back.
On his way to becoming king of the Greek gods, Zeus will learn to seize power, neutralize his enemies, and fall in love.
I love a good origin story. I also enjoy Greek mythology. So an origin story for Zeus? Written with him being a teen in current time? Sign me up!
The Sky Throne was a great young adult read. I’d have no problem passing it on to my almost 14 year old. I think, for me, my favorite part was reading as Zeus comes to meet the other students at Mount Olympus Prep and builds relationships with the other characters. It was fun to think of them as teens knowing how their Greek myth stories end up unfolding.
I believe being familiar with Greek mythology absolutely makes the story more enjoyable. I would love to hear a review from someone who doesn’t really know the myths and relationships between the different Gods.
