Promise - Soul Savers book 1
Promise (Soul Savers) was written by Kristie Cook. It is the first book in the Soul Savers series.
I downloaded the Soul Savers Box Set (Books 1-3 + Novella) when I saw it listed in the Kindle Daily Deals e-mail. (It's currently $5.99 for all 4 books 5/29/13.) I can tell you it is beyond worth the price.
Description from KristieCook.com:
Alexis Ames has a life full of promise…but not all promises can be kept.
When Alexis Ames is attacked by creatures that can’t be real, she decides it’s time she learns who she really is, with or without the help of her mother, who guards their family’s secrets closely. After meeting the inhumanly attractive, multi-talented Tristan Knight, however, Alexis retreats behind her façade of normalcy…until she discovers he’s not exactly normal either. Then their secrets begin to unravel.
Their union brings hope and promise to her family’s secret society, the Angels’ army, and to the future of mankind. But it also incites a dangerous pursuit by the enemy – Satan’s minions and Tristan’s creators. After all, Alexis and Tristan are a match made in Heaven and in Hell.
Not my favorite. The book trailer (which you can see below)? Pretty cheesy. If I based my purchase on either of those... I probably wouldn't have read the book. But, like I said, I downloaded the box set right from the e-mail link.
Promise (Soul Savers) follows the same story line as most of the popular paranormal romance novels. Big, strong, dangerous, "monster" of a man... small, frail, normal girl. Only there's a little twist, as Alexis ends up not being so normal. She's always known she was a little different... and that her mother kept secrets. I love that as Alexis discovers the truth, we learn it right along with her. (There is so little I can say without being a huge spoiler.)
Something to note about Kristie Cook's Promise... she does NOT promote it as a YA novel. While it does seem like it might be YA, and a lot of book reviewers label it as such, there are quite a few steamy scenes. I could see it being considered young adult. Definitely leaning to the ADULT.
Promise (Soul Savers) is an absolute page turner. The writing was amazing. The character development and twists truly draw you in. I spent the early morning hours trying to convince myself to get to sleep with promises of "just one more chapter... I just need one more chapter." Well, one more chapter was never enough. I'm starting book 2 ASAP.
