“Love & Cupcakes” Kindle Giveaway and Facebook Party from Betsy St. Amant! (book review)

Betsy St. Amant All's Fair in Love and Cupcakes
Don't miss Betsy St. Amant's latest fiction release, All's Fair in Love and Cupcakes. A "sweet" tale of two best friends and the choices they make between dreams and a possible "sure thing," St. Amant's novel is sure to satisfy your romantic-fiction craving.

About the book:

Alls-FairKat inspected rows of the same old cupcakes. They seemed to blink back at her, as if they knew she was capable of so much more.

Kat Varland has had enough of chocolate, vanilla, and strawberry.

At twenty-six years old, Kat is still living in the shadows of her family in Bayou Bend, Louisiana. Still working shifts at her Aunt Maggie’s bakery. Still wondering what to do with her passion for baking and her business degree. And still single.

But when Lucas Brannen, Kat’s best friend, signs her up for a reality TV bake-off on Cupcake Combat, everything Kat ever wanted is suddenly dangled in front of her: creative license as a baker, recognition as a visionary . . . and a job at a famous bakery in New York.

As the competition heats up, Lucas realizes he might have made a huge mistake. As much as he wants the best for Kat, the only thing he wants for himself—her—is suddenly in danger of slipping away.

The bright lights of reality cooking wars and the chance at a successful career dazzle Kat’s senses and Lucas is faced with a difficult choice: help his friend achieve her dreams . . . or sabotage her chances to keep her in Louisiana.

My review:

I. Absolutely. FELL IN LOVE. with this book.  And it wasn't because of the cupcakes (well... maybe a little because of the cupcakes).  Mostly... it was the total innocent, falling in love, story.  Kat and Lucas are perfection.  Their friendship is one that everyone should have.  Their internal struggle through the book with keeping their friendship safe or risking it to express that they each want more had me right there with them.  And... right up until the end of the book you're really not sure whether Kat and Lucus are going to end up truly together, still just best friends, or separated by miles.

On top of my love for Kat and Lucus... I loved the other characters in the book as well.   I'd love to see another book focused on Kat and her cupcake customers (of the fun it would be matching up her creative cupcake flavors with the personalities!).  I really could see another book focusing on Lucus and his relationship with his football team.  The care and concern that Lucus had for his boys had me swooning (and of course the fact that he was a hot coach).  I could see a book on Tyler (one of the football players with an unfortunate home life)... because I would love to know what happens to him.

Oh... and let's not forget about the Cupcake Combat.  If you've ever watched one of these cooking competitions...  I have to say Betsy St. Amant did a pretty amazing job of writing it into the story.  I was on the edge of my seat wondering how Kat would come out of each challenge.  And Kat's rival, Piper?  Oh how I love to hate her and her ridiculous tutu.  How I would truly love to hear her story after her little twist.  The nerves and excitement of the competition on top of the stress over Kat and Lucus' relationship status was almost too much to take.  This was definitely a page turner.
