KIDNAP Part1 of Guy Erma and the Son of the Empire (book review)

iRead Book Tour Logo Medium KIDNAP is part one in the Guy Erma and the Son of the Empire book series.  It was written by Sally Ann Melia.  This post has been organized by iRead Book Tours.  I was provided with a copy in exchange for my honest book review.  All opinions are my own.

About the book:

KidnapI don’t want to go… Do I have to go?

13-year-old Prince Teodor of Freyne knows his duty to the memory of his father and his kingdom. Always, he must help those less fortunate than himself. Yet a frightening nightmare fills him with foreboding, but still he must go - into the Dome.

13-year-old Guy Erma lives in the shadow of the Dome, he has no father and no mother and his future is uncertain, he must start earning a living when he turns 14. He knows not where he will live or even how he will eat, and his only dream is to enter the military academy - at the heart of the Dome.

Two boys as different as any two boys might be. One act of cruelty will throw their lives together, but who dare they trust?

My review:

I want so badly to compare this book to something to give you a better idea of what it's like... but I can't come up with anything that really does it.  It had a feel of being almost medieval with the kingdom, and royalty, and classes.  But, then it was futuristic with different planets, and races/species, and space travel, and cyborgs, and military.  I  want to say it has a feeling like Star Wars, or Ender's Game (but more Speaker for the Dead), but then Game of Thrones, or Reign, or Merlin, but maybe Thor... It's not like any or all of those... I just think it has the feel of those... if that makes any sense at all.

I loved how the story followed the lives of the two boys.  Teodor and Guy were as different and far apart as could be... but they were also two boys who were the same age just trying to find their way in the life they were given.  I liked how, even though they were so different... separate... their lives were almost woven together and connections made through mutual people and places.  I can't wait to see how the next book brings them closer together.
