A Walk Down Kid TV Memory Lane

The other day, my daughter was playing with a tiny doll house TV. (I almost really dated myself here by saying “TV set”—do people under the age of 40 even know that term?) She discovered that the TV had a small opening above the screen where she could slide a thin piece of cardboard with an image on it so it looked like the image was being shown on the TV. Off she went to the recycling bin to grab a discarded cereal box, then she cut away at it until it slid into the slot.

Next, she scoured her magazines for tiny pictures she could glue on, and found the perfect page of mini animal photos. “They are watching the Nature Channel!” But, of course, no one can watch just the Nature Channel, so she opened my computer and did a Google search for cartoon images, in case the little kids in the doll house wanted to watch TV. She copied and sized a few scenes from Dora The Explorer, The Wonder Pets, and Bubble Guppies, glued them on the front and back of a few mini pieces of cardboard, and, voila! A “working” TV!

As she was sifting through the cartoon images, I wondered if she remembered some of the shows she and her brother used to watch when they were preschoolers. I also wondered how in the world we parents survived some of these shows being played over and over and over (and over!) again! If you have a kid who watched TV about 2008-2012 or so, let’s see how many of these you remember. Can you sing the theme song? Can you name the characters? How many times did your kid watch the same episode before you couldn’t stand it anymore? Which shows did you like and which freaked you out?

I know there are a thousand more shows that can be added to this list, but, for space sake, I’ve included ones that were most popular in our house. Time for our walk down TV memory lane, in no particular order…

You can thank me later for getting these theme songs stuck in your head!
