Fern (The Montgomery Sisters Book 1) - Book Review & Giveaway
Fern was written by Kat Flannery. It is the first book of The Montgomery Sisters series. This book tour was organized by iRead Book Tours. Any opinions expressed are my own.
About the book:
Can one woman heal the heart of a lawman? A gardener who uses plants to heal, Fern Montgomery is an outcast who refuses to be pushed out of town. When her friend is murdered and all fingers point to Fern as the only suspect, she must find a way to prove her innocence while fighting off unwanted feelings for the sheriff. Sheriff Gabe Bennett has his mind set on arresting Sarah Fuller’s killer. But his key suspect isn’t what he expected. He soon realizes there is more to the quiet gardener than he’d first anticipated. As passion blooms, Gabe is forced to face his feelings—and the woman who has stolen his heart.

I was asked to review the third book in the series, as they can be read as stand-alone stories, but I’m so glad I decided to request to read and review all three. Fern is a quick read, but had a lot to say about being a single young woman in a time when it was thought a woman needed a man to take care of her, and it really put you at a disadvantage in many ways NOT to have a father, husband, or even at least a brother to be in charge of the family.
I loved learning about Fern. She is such a strong young woman, and I really enjoyed reading about how she dealt with being the eldest of three sisters and responsible for the family and home. It was also interesting to see how both Fern and Gabe (the new handsome sheriff in town) both deal with their interest in one another when Fern imagined herself as an old spinster, and Gabe had never met such a strong independent woman.
Add a little murder mystery to the historical western romance and this makes a really fun book for a beach read. I’m looking forward to see where Poppy (the tom-boy sharp-shooter middle sister) goes with her story in the second book.
