Everything (book review)

Everything was written by NB Baker.  The book tour was organized by N K Author Services.  An ebook was provided to me in exchange for an honest book review.  All opinions are my own.

About the book:

A shocking tale of romance and deception, N.B. Baker's Everything is an impressive debut that proves no secret is ever really buried.  Ella Stone is struggling to pick up the pieces of her life.  Abandoned by her parents when she was an infant, both of the grandparents who raised her are now gone.  Facing her future for the first time, Ella decides to move to Detroit in order to be near her two best friends.  After a misguided relationship with a man she finds in bed with another woman, Ella begins doubting her life-changing move.  That is, until she meets Chance St. John.  When Chance  fends of a brutal attack, he and Ella share an instant connection.  As the two get to know each other, their passionate exploits both in and out of the bedroom make was for a deeper connection for which neither one was quite prepared.  But, despite their increasing closeness, Ella can't shake the feeling that Chance is hiding something from her.  His frequent nightmares and skittish responses point to a secret in his past that haunts him still.  While Ella attempts to uncover Chance's mysterious past, her own life takes a turn for the strange.  As Everything builds to it's explosive climax, Ella must discover the truth before Chance's dark past consumes them both.

My review:

I can't believe this is N.B. Baker's first novel.  It was so thoroughly well written.  I found myself completely in love with both Ella and Chance.  The relationship building between all of the characters in the book.... and there are A LOT of relationships... is so fully written.  (Ella & her grandparents, Ella and her best friends Justin & Sarah, Ella & Hunter, Justin & Sarah, Ella & Chance, Chance & Justin, Ella & Sarah at their book shop, Chance and his friend Cory, Chance and his family..... and add in some other little interactions with small characters... SO MANY RELATIONSHIPS!!!)  Even with a pretty large cast of characters... I never felt overwhelmed.  Baker just created amazing characters.  I immediately want her to write more books just fanning out from Everything.  (I'd love more of Justin & Sarah.  And I'm dying to know more about Cory.)

I don't want to give anything away about the mystery and secrets.  I couldn't leave my review simply as amazing characters and relationships.  Baker also writes a true page turner in the mystery sense.  I couldn't put the book down.  Trying to figure out Chance's secret past... and trying to follow along with some creepy stuff happening with Ella... I just couldn't stop thinking of Everything.  I found myself a little on edge and anxious trying to figure out the "who done it".  I NEVER flip ahead in books.... but there were moments that I was tempted just because I needed to know.  I needed to know Chance's past.  I needed to know how things would go with Chance & Ella.  I needed to know who the bad guy (or guys) were.

Oh... and the epilogue?  It gave me chills.  I had to read the final pages twice.
