Dissident (book review)
Dissident was written by Cecilia London. It is the first book in a six part series (The Bellator Saga).
About the book:
In a new America where almost no one can be trusted, Caroline lies unconscious in a government hospital as others decide her fate. She is a political dissident, wanted for questioning by a brutal regime that has come to power in a shockingly easy way. As she recovers from her injuries, all she has are her memories. And once she wakes up, they may not matter anymore.
Dissident is part contemporary romance and part political thriller, with elements of romantic suspense and speculative fiction. Told mostly in flashback, it details the budding romantic relationship between our heroine Caroline and Jack, the silver fox playboy who tries to win her heart.
Dissident is currently available for FREE!!!
Conscience, the second installment in the series, is scheduled for release August 17.
I was sent a copy of this book after reading a description including "political dystopian intellectual smut.” I kinda went “huh, wonder how that’ll work?”
Now, I know... and I loved every bit of it.
There were two completely different feels to this story. The present day thriller/sci-fi/dystopian feel... and the flashback political/romance feel. The present day story is action and confusion and angst... the flashbacks are this lovely relationship development between Caroline and Jack. I loved both feels... present and flashback. The connections haven't been made yet... and I'm really on the edge of my seat waiting to see how the past becomes the present.
BUT… the cliffhanger ending left me with SO MANY QUESTIONS!!! What in the world happened between the romantic butterflies in my stomach flashbacks to the heart in my throat, danger, life and death present? How in the world did we get from Congress to running for their lives? How did we go from heals and pencil skirts to frostbite and a gunshot wound? And I must know WHAT HAPPENED TO JACK?????
Thank goodness Conscience (the 2nd book) is due out in August. If the books don't give me more soon I just may go crazy wondering.
