The Diamond Isles (book review & giveaway)

DI banner The Diamond Isles was written by S. Cu'Anam Policar.  This book tour was organized by N K Author Services.  I was provided with a book in exchange for my honest book review.  All opinions are my own.

About the book:

TheDiamondIsles2-Policar A strange white whelp found by The Gateway. The winds tell her that destruction is coming. That the horde can no longer remain in their home; But no one will listen.

Rose has always been different. Being mocked, abused, and shunned; That's the story of her life.

The gods of her people whisper a dire warning to her. An unknown enemy seeks The Diamond Isles. She knows they must leave, to stay means their death. She even knows where they must go. She has seen their "xosha" in dreams and visions.

Will she be able to convince the Oni to leave? Or will the things the winds spoke of come to pass?

My review:

I spent just about all of this book thinking "Oh my gosh, what the heck is wrong with Pyre???  What a little jerk!"  It's not often one can find themselves thinking that about a dragon.  I loved every moment of this book.  The fact that the majority of characters in the story are dragons (seriously... like 90%) made this unlike anything I've read all year (and longer).  Although it seems to be listed for teens... I would feel comfortable giving it to my 4th grader.  (She's very into Harry Potter... and anything fantasy seems to get her excited.)  There was some violence... but not too much... and it went right along with the story.

I loved the development of the siblings.  From finding Rose (the "strange white whelp") right up until the end of the book watching how the brothers and sisters and "mates" all developed and grew was really interesting.  I can't wait until book 2 to find out what happens with Rose, Jade, Pyre, Ocee, Obsidian... and the dragon eggs.
