The Cowboy's Gamble (book review)

CG banner The Cowboy's Gamble was written by Janelle Denison.  This book tour was organized by N K Author Services.  I was provided with a copy in exchange for my honest book review.  All opinions are my own.

About the book:

THE COWBOY'S GAMBLE Eleven years ago Seth O'Connor left Josie McAllister brokenhearted.  But now the sexy, smooth talking cowboy is on her doorstep, with a legal document that laid claim not only to McAllister property but to Josie, as well.

Learning that her father had gambled away not just the family ranch, but Josie's future on one game of cards has her fighting to safeguard her home, along with protecting her daughter from a past filled with painful secrets between her and Seth.

But this cowboy is determined to claim what is now rightfully his, and Josie has a difficult choice to make.  She can either give up her home to her family nemesis, or marry a man she'd taught herself to hate….

My review:

I don't know how to review this book without giving away more than the about blurb... so beware spoilers.

This book broke my heart a little bit.  I mean... it all ended exactly how I had hoped (better even)... but it still left me sad for what was lost.

When Josie and Seth were first together in high school they were living in a real life "Hatfields and McCoys"  or "Romeo and Juliet" type of situation.  They fell for each other anyway.  When Seth's brother found out how far they fell... he made sure to ruin it.  The love and lose goes right along with all tragedies.  And, their coming back together in The Cowboys Gamble because of Josie's father losing everything in a card game made for a romance that had me routing for Seth and Josie and falling in love with the simple thought of them getting out of their family hatred to build a life.

What broke my heart though?  That Seth lost 11 years with a daughter his brother made him believe couldn't possibly be his.  That a family hatred could take a father away from a sweet innocent child.  I know Seth and Josie were both dumb teenagers just believing in the families they loved and trusted... but I spent a lot of time wishing just one person had stood up and done the right thing for the truth.

That said... LOVE this story.  This is the 2nd story by Janelle Denison that I've read and I think she does an amazing job of making you love her characters... both because of what they've lost... and because of what they do to get what they want.
