Workshop for kids to feature Broadway performer
Madison kids will get the chance for some insider insight from Broadway performer Ian Knauer at a special Anastasia workshop on March 9.
Sellwood Studios, run by Tom Sellwood, is organizing the event. Sellwood is a Madison resident and Central Avenue School parent. He has been teaching voice to kids for about two years. HIs studio features kids group singing lessons, voice lessons and a summer camp. He also offers audition coaching and singing lessons for adults.
Prior to teaching, Sellwood was a working actor on Broadway and London’s West end.
“I met Ian working on a show called 'And The World Goes Round' by Kander and Ebb in New York,” said Sellwood. “We met again in the West End. It's a small world for actors.”
Knauer later landed a role in the original cast of “Anastasia” on Broadway. Knauer will lead the workshop, which is split into two sessions. The morning is for kids aged 5 to 11 years and the afternoon is for kids 10 and up. There will be singing, dancing and time for questions. The cost is $45 per person, and discounts are available. (Spotlight Kids Company participants can get $5 off, for example.)
“I have many Broadway friends and would like to set up a quarterly 'Bringing Broadway to Madison' series of workshops and possibly even a concert or two,” said Sellwood. “Broadway Workshops would include 'Mamma Mia', 'Phantom Of The Opera', 'Fiddler On The Roof', 'The Prom' (currently running on Broadway) and much more.”
