Summer is (sort of) officially here so get out and have some fun with the family at these upcoming events!


New Jersey State Fair

June 20th - July 7th - various times

State Fair Meadowlands returns for 18 days with more than 150 rides and attractions plus plenty of free entertainment on two stages.  The fair, which features the largest Kiddieland in New Jersey as well as thrilling rides for older children and adults, over 50 food vendors, live animal shows, daring acrobats, illusionists, a hypnotist, games and shopping.

State Fair Meadowlands is the largest fair in the New York metro area, with more than 35 acres of fairgrounds. Dazzling fireworks shows will take place July 3 and 4.

Horseshoe Crab Walk

Liberty State Park

Friday, June 21st - 10 am - 12 pm

June is the time of year when horseshoe crabs come ashore to lay their eggs.Embark on a walk to discover these amazing creatures and learn about the important roles they play in the natural world.

The group will meet at the middle lot on Morris Pesin Drive and then walk over to Caven Point (please be aware that there is over a mile of walking involved). Please dress for the weather and wear old shoes than can get wet/muddy (no open-toed shoes or flip flops). If it is a hot day, sunscreen and water are also recommended.

Union County Summer Arts Festival

Echo Lake Park

Friday, June 21st - 7:30 pm

The parks of Union County host live concerts under the stars all summer long. The July concerts take place every Wednesday at Echo Lake Park, with a special Friday night kickoff in June. The August concerts are held at Oak Ridge Park. Bring a blanket or lawn chair. In the event of rain, the concerts may relocate to an indoor facility.

2nd Annual Taco Palooza

Municipal Field, Chester

Saturday, June 22nd - 11 am - 8 pm

If you love tacos, this festival is for you. Revel in everything-taco at this fair that features food trucks, restaurants, live music, children's activities, a mechanical bull and taco-themed contests. 

Feel free to bring chairs or blankets. There will be a collection of non perishable items for a local pantry.

All ages

$5, Kids under 10 FREE

Fairy Day

Frelinghuysen Arboretum

Sunday, June 23rd - 1 pm

Celebrate the 13th Annual Fairy Day at The Frelinghuysen Arboretum. Welcome these wee folks into the garden by designing and creating a magical, miniature garden home made from all natural materials.

Enjoy delicious treats and live music, and create a fairy themed craft to take home. At 3 p.m., join a colorful, musical procession around the gardens to marvel at the finished projects. Feel free to wear your best fairy finery. Perfect for fairy believers, both young in age and young at heart.
