Think SPRING this week with our bonus edition of 5 Fave Things for Spring Break in the area! We’ve gots lots of fun and exciting things to do with kids of all ages, inside and out!


Stuffed Animal Sleepover

Museum of Early Trades & Crafts

Friday, April 5th - 4-5 pm

Bring your favorite stuffed animal or doll for a sleepover at the Museum of Early Trades and Crafts. Stay for a snack and storytime, then tuck your friend in for the night. 

Return on Saturday to pick up your friend and decorate a framed picture of the mischief the animals got into overnight.

$5 per child

Spring Break Drop-In Crafts

Museum of Early Trades & Crafts

April 9th - 18th

On April 9 through April 18, 2019, the Museum of Early Trades & Crafts (METC) will hold Spring Break Crafts for school-aged children and their caregivers. These drop-in crafts will be available anytime between 11:30 am – 3:30 pm and a different craft will be available each day. The schedule for the week is:
Tuesday, April 9 and April 16 – Coil Pots: Children will have fun with clay and make their own clay coil pot to take home.

Wednesday, April 10 and April 17 - Broom Making: Participants will make a miniature broom with authentic broom corn, just like early New Jersey farmers would have used to make brooms for their homes.

Thursday, April 11 and April 18 – Candle Dipping: Educators will instruct participants on the art of candle making the way that people made them in the 18th and 19th centuries.

27th Annual Easter Bunny Express

Whippany Railway Museum

April 7th - 20th - various times

The popular Easter Bunny Express returns to the Whippany Railway Museum for its 27th year. The Easter Bunny and train crew will greet guests and hand out holiday treats to kids on this 10-mile round-trip journey along the Morristown & Erie Railway's historic Whippanong Trail.

Departures for this 45-minute ride are scheduled for 1pm, 2pm, 3pm, and 4pm. These rides usually sell out, so advance internet ticket reservations are strongly recommended.

Age 12 and older $17; under 12 years $12; lap infants free

The Jungle Book


Sunday, April 7th - 2 pm

The beloved children’s tale to life in this full staged production of Rudyard Kipling’s The Jungle Book. Join young Mowgli as he learns the ‘Laws’ of the jungle in this time-honored adventure. With the help of friends like the black panther, Bagheera, and Baloo the lovable bear, Mowgli learns about friendship and survival.

Cheer as Mowgli faces his fear and foils his nemesis the tiger, Shere Khan. This musical version of Rudyard Kipling’s classic will delight both the young and the young at heart.

Steampunk 101: Scorcese’s Hugo with Curator Tour

Morris Museum/Bickford Theatre

Sunday, April 7th - 1-4 pm

Head over to Bickford Theatre for a big-screen showing of the film Hugo directed by Martin Scorsese.

Parisian orphan Hugo discovers a mysterious automaton left by his father. Seeking the key to unlock the machine, he embarks on a quest that will transform those around him and lead to a safe and loving place he can call home. Following the film, join the Guinness Collection staff for a tour of Simply Steampunk.

Essex County Cherry Blossom Festival

Starts Saturday, April 6th

Essex County presents this three-weekend festival with BloomfestFamily Fun Day, 10K and 1-mile family fun runs, bike races and a community fair. 

Enjoy thousands of flowering trees, plus family fun, such as music, crafts, vendors and even bounce houses and a petting zoo on certain days.
