2013... a photo a month
I thought I would just take a moment (or a couple hours) (or, um, 17 days) to scan through my photos from the year and pick out one favorite shot from each month. (It's a very hard thing to do when you sometimes take 9 gazillion photos a month.) My favorites ended up not being examples of stellar photography... but examples that reminded me what an amazing year 2013 was. I had to go with amazing moments over prettiest pictures. :) Let me just tell you... putting together a photo a month collection really makes you reflect on your life! January - I feel like 2013 was the year of the PJ Day. I would be embarrassed by how many days we spent ALL DAY LONG in our pajamas if I didn't enjoy those days so much.
February - It was a big birthday month. It's not every year a girl turns 40.
March - I am lucky to have an amazing family. We're lucky to have awesome friends. We're lucky to live in a community as special as Madison, NJ.
April - As Zoe and Ana get older we come to realize more and more how much we love our neighborhood. I love that Zoe and Ana can play outside unsupervised. I love that they can run next door or up the street and find friends to play with. I love that the doorbell rings and it's one of the neighborhood kids looking to play. And, I love that I can call quite a few of my neighbors my friends. Not everyone has that.
May - It was really hard to pick a May favorite to put here... because there were a lot of favorites. The weather was pretty gorgeous so we were outside a lot. Kids in their Easter clothes, a beautiful shot of our church, flowers, blue skies, and a visit to my brother's family in Ithaca, waterfalls... so hard to choose just one photo. But, I finally picked this library photo. It's just truly so Zoe in that moment.
June - Another really hard one. June was FULL. The #JerseyLove trip, dance recitals, preschool graduation, another Ithaca trip, a garden store visit. But, like the library photo of Zoe... this sidewalk chalk photo of Ana just really brings back a moment.
July - Sigh... how to choose how to choose. Another month full of amazing trips and events. Summer activities, birthday parties, ALL of the family visiting, beach trips, and BlogHer in Chicago. But this is it... ALL of "the cousins". It's rare that we've had all 8 of them together. And, this was the VERY FIRST SHOT WITH ALL 8!!! Oldest to youngest. Larisa, Avery, Alex, Zoe, Nina, Grace, Ana, and Phebe.
August - Each month is harder than the last. Scanning through the months (especially June, July, and August) have shown me was a truly amazing year 2013 was for us. August included a fun NYC day trip, my NOLA trip with some of my favorite NJDMoms, our Florida trip with the Bohensky cousins, and our Lake George family trip where we did EVERY activity available. SO many fun times to share. I'll go with a simple time. My little family swimming off the docks in Lake George. This is something we will ABSOLUTELY do again.
September - This was an easy pic... or so I thought until I scanned a little more through the month and remembered that September also included Type A in Atlanta where I spent time with some of my favorite blog friends, got together with my college roomate, AND had Dorothy Hamill tell me that she liked my hair. Still... those photos haven't been my desktop image for the last 5 months. Zoe and Ana on the first day of school.
October - I'm going to speak for all NJ moms when I say we held our breath at the end of October waiting to see what crazy weather might keep us from having Halloween ON Halloween. When we got no-coat temperatures and a little drizzle instead of an ice storm or hurricane we all rejoiced . Fiona and Princess Bubblegum and all of their friends got in their trick-or-treating (and there may have been a pair of moms handing out candy from my front step while enjoying a glass of wine. maybe.)
November - This little blog has become such a big part of my life. Not really just this blog, but what this blog has grown into. I've found an amazing community of bloggers through social media... people who have become friends. I've had a lot of great experiences made possible through my activity online. The best part of it all is when my family can be involved... and see why Mommy spends her free time on the computer. I love that my kids love these blogger events... and are also making friends and having awesome experiences. (It still blows my mind a little to see these "people who live in my computer" out in the "real world")
December - Our New Year's Eve was a blast thanks to our friend Dan. He's a pro at figuring out ways to socialize without having to worry about babysitters. Want to go to a brewery pub New Year's Eve with a dozen kids in tow? Sure! Dan just reserves an upstairs room for a few hours. No biggie. Good food, great friends, full glasses, all fun.
I'm cheating on December... although maybe this can be considered January 2014? This is where my year ends and begins. While being blurry, dim, and poorly framed... it may be the best picture of 2013.
This post has probably taken me more time to put together than any post before... but by doing it, it really made me realize that our little family has a pretty awesome life.
