Tangled Roots (book review)

TR Banner Tangled Roots was written by Rebekkah Ford.  It is a companion to the Beyond the Eyes trilogy.  This post was organized by N K Author Services.  I was provided with a copy in exchange for my honest book review.  All opinions are my own.

About the book:

Tangled Roots Driscol to IsadoraMy review:

So, it says at the beginning of the book that this is a companion book to the Beyond the Eyes trilogy... but that it can be read as a standalone.  It CAN be read as a standalone... and I DID read it without having read the trilogy... but I would NOT recommend doing that.  There were characters referred to that were obviously important to the trilogy... and they were mentioned repeatedly... but they were traveling and not in this novel.  There were also characters in this novel that had past experiences somewhat briefly mentioned with minimal explanation... but they played important parts in this novel.  So while I was able to figure it all out... it would have been MUCH more enjoyable had I read the trilogy.

All of that said... I can say I really enjoyed the author's writing style.  Not everyone writes a story from multiple character perspectives well... but I felt like Rebekkah Ford did an exceptional job.  Each chapter would start with the character's name (mainly Carrie and Tree/Jack) and lead flow through the story that way.  As I said... I didn't read the trilogy... but if the author's writing is consistently done in the style and quality used in Tangled Roots... I would feel comfortable recommending the trilogy followed by this companion book.

(Oh... and I LOVED Rex.  I wish there had been more Rex.)
