Sussex County Miners Baseball

Last week, my husband took our son and a car-load of friends on their annual trip to see a local baseball game. In the past, we have gone to the Somerset Patriots, New Jersey Jackals, and the Newark Bears (which is now defunct). This year, they were excited to check out the relatively new team in Sussex County, the Miners.

When the kids were very young, we ventured out to Sussex County's Skylands Park in Augusta (about 45 minutes from Madison) to watch the Sussex Skylarks (2006-2010), so we were very excited to hear that a new team, the Miners, was formed in 2015, and played on the same field (now called Skylands Stadium). The team is a member of the Canadian American Association of Professional Baseball, and plays against the Rockland Boulders, Quebec Capitales, New Jersey Jackals, Ottowa Champions, and Trois-Rivieres Aigles.

In my opinion, going to a local baseball game is a guaranteed fun time. You can usually get tickets the day of the game (so you can check the weather), the tickets are much less expensive than major league games, and you can usually get seats that make you feel like you are almost on the field. Parking is not a headache, there are often specialized local food vendors, and there's great family-friendly amusements like carnival games, fireworks, and running the bases for kids after select games.

At the Miners home games, there is special ticket pricing or give-aways each day:

Every home game: Free admission to all children 38" tall and shorter. Children must be accompanied by a paid adult. Limit 2 free kids per adult per game. In order for your child to have his/her own seat, guests must get the free children's passes at the box office (no online or phone orders), otherwise, your child may sit on your lap.

Family Fun Sundays:

Kids 12 years old and younger go free. Must be accompanied by a paid adult; 2 free kid passes per adult per Sunday. Passes available only at the stadium box office on Sundays (no online or phone orders). Post-game kids run the bases. Post-game photo opps and autographs with Miners players.

Dog Day Mondays: Bring your dog to the park! Hot dog special: buy 1, get 1 free.

Cheap Cheap Tuesdays:  Get $2 off (group sale price) at the box office. Get 10% off at the Company Store. New food specials every week.

Wednesday is Winsday: The first 500 fans in attendance receive a free Miners giveaway item.

Thirsty Thursdays: $2 domestic draft beers; $2 hot dogs; $2 fountain sodas; $3 import draft beers; $3 craft beers.

For $59 (save $9), you receive 4 game tickets (upper level) and 4 food and beverage vouchers (valued at $5 each). (Must be purchased at the box office.)

Fireworks Saturdays: Fireworks after Saturday night games.

Some of the upcoming promotions include Superhero night and car show (Sunday, July 30, 4:05pm), Ladies Night (Saturday, August 19, 7:05pm), Medieval Times Night (Tuesday, August 22, 7:05pm), and the Food & Beer Fest (Saturday, September 2, 7:05pm).

When my husband took our son and his friends to the Sunday game, the boys loved running the bases after the game and getting the players' autographs. They also caught a foul ball and a home run ball! They also tried to win prizes at the kids' throwing games and basketball game. Younger kids would also enjoy the Jump Truck (bouncy house shaped like a dump truck). All in all, a trip to the Sussex County Miners baseball game is a fun day for the whole family!

The Sussex County Miners play at Skylands Stadium, 94 Championship Place, Augusta, NJ. For more information on the Sussex County Miners, and to check out their schedule, visit http://sussexcountyminers.com/ or call the box office at (973) 940-0222.
