Her Secret Agent (book review)

Her Secret Agent was written by Paige Tyler.  This book tour was organized by N K Author Services.  I downloaded a copy of the book from NetGalley in order to review.  All opinions are my own.

About the book:

A prequel to the fantastic X-Ops series by USA Today bestselling author Paige Tyler

John Loughlin, Director of the Department of Covert Ops, is in New York City on a recruiting mission. Cree Forest is a clever fox shifter-and very foxy. John is keen to hire her brilliant mind onto his team.

But Cree isn't what she seems. Just as John has been watching her, Cree has been spying on him. Now John is getting too close-both professionally and personally. On opposite sides of a lethal game, can they trust each other with their hearts?

My review:

Very short novella.  I love that Amazon has it titled "Her Secret Agent: A Novella (X-Ops Book 0)".  There are 3 full X-Ops books... and if this is acting as a prequel to the series... it's done a pretty awesome job of giving an introduction to what the X-Ops world it about.  It gives enough to make me put the rest of the series on my "to read list".  With this short bit of the world I've been introduced to, I'm definitely interested in reading more.  I wish more series would give an option of a free novella prequel.  It lets you figure out if you like something enough to invest in paying for the rest of the series.  Kind of a no-risk trial.

As for this particular story... I loved that while John has been gathering info on Cree... she's been doing the same to him.  For being short... the book is full of action and there is an absolute attraction building up.  They obviously learned a lot about each other during their spying... but once they meet it's interesting to see them slowly learn more about each other that didn't come out in the back ground checks.

The next 3 books don't seem to include John and Cree at all.  I'm hoping a full book is in their future.
