The One (book review)

The One was written by Belle Ami.  I downloaded a copy from Netgalley.  The opinions in this review are all my own.

About the book:

TheOneAdelia, a rising star in the equestrian world, is still reeling from her parents' deaths in a tragic car accident when she meets green energy investment banker Miles Bremen and his charming yet inscrutable twin sister, Karolin. With his insatiable lust, Miles ignites a passion within Adelia she never knew existed, and the two quickly find themselves entwined in a torrid affair that knows no bounds. Little does Adelia know, however, that her meeting of the Bremen twins was no accident. Carefully selected as "the one" for her unsettling resemblance to the emotionally and physically damaged Karolin, Adelia is targeted to marry Miles and bear the children that Karolin cannot have.

The One is a razor edge mystery that enfolds on the playgrounds of the super rich, from Trump Tower to the Hamptons and Palm Beach; to the Amalfi Coast aboard Miles's mega-yacht Green Way, The One is irresistible as the reader is drawn into Adelia's journey through a suspenseful and erotic world.

An edge-of-your-seat thriller that will leave readers breathless in more ways than one, The One is an irresistible journey through new territory that fans of romantic fiction are bound to love.

My review:

While you can't help but hate Miles... he's one of those characters you love to hate.  What happens when you enter a relationship with a woman as a means to an end and then actually find yourself falling madly in love???  I spent most of the book really wanting Miles to redeem himself... and to do it BEFORE Adelia finds out the truth.  I hated myself for actually liking Adelia and Miles together when they were alone.  At the end of the book, even though the whole thing is so messed up... I really can't decided whether I'm hoping in the next book they realize they're irreparable or whether they realize that no matter what brought them together they belong together.

This book was a little (ok... a lot) twisted.  Karolin truly has some screws loose.  When you find out why she's a psycho you almost feel sorry for her though.  The woman needs some serious help.

As soon as I realized the 2nd book (The One and More) had already been released, I immediately bought it.  I just HAVE to know if Adelia (and Miles) figure out how they got where they are.  So many questions are left unanswered at the end of The One!  Which mystery gets solved first?  Who figures it all out?  What happens next?  (And I'm not even a "mystery fan".)
