Madison Town-Wide Yard Sale
Have you ever thought about holding a yard sale? I know I have, but the thought of picking a date and advertising for it usually stops me from thinking about it any further. Fortunately, The Madison Environmental Commission (MEC) has come up with a way to help out with those details.
On Saturday, October 13, 2018, from 9am-1pm (rain or shine), the MEC is helping to organize a town-wide yard sale! Start digging though your attic and basement, and pulling out all the great things that you just don’t use any more. Put out your wares that Saturday morning, and you might be able to get a nice chunk of change for the things that were once collecting dust in your house.
Last spring, the MEC held the first Town Swap. Madison residents were encouraged to bring any unneeded things to the swap, and then “shop” the swap (free) for anything they wanted to take home. The goal was to help reduce the amount of perfectly good “stuff” people throw away in the garbage, and to find new owners for the things you no longer need. Based on the amount and variety of things I saw being packed into people’s cars that day (I won’t mention how much I took home with me), it was a very successful event!
This season, however, with the Town-Wide Yard Sale, residents can hold their own sales at their homes (and will hopefully be able to make some cash!). Everyone is encouraged to visit other sales around town, too. If you plan to hold a sale, you do not need to get a permit or register. However, if you would like to advertise your sale, the MEC and TapIntoMadison.net are here to help! For just $10, you can get your sale listed with www.TapIntoMadison.net (deadline October 9). A master list of sale addresses will be posted on the site, and publicized in neighboring towns. For more information about how to register, click here.
Now, start gathering your goods and get selling!
