Free Fun: Local Summer Love
I am forever searching for opportunities and outings. With a three-year-old and one-year-old in tow, my mama mantra is comprised of "let them be little" and "tire them out." Summer is an entirely different animal when it comes to our routine and needs. Like the weather, moods and likes fluctuate and it's been a struggle to anticipate activities consistently. Luckily, we get to keep it local and fresh with free fun provided by various businesses and organizations.
My love for the library runs deep. I am a big fan of the summer schedule, especially because it's a mix of appealing activities. From short movies that allow us to beat the heat, to dance parties with Miss Carol, there's plenty of action for all. Check out the July calendar for more information.
And while I love the library, it's not the only place for storytime. The Madison Cooperative Nursery School is inviting caregivers and children 6 and under for a summer storytime at their playground on July 18th and August 14th at 10 a.m. Along with the storytime, a craft and snack are provided. This looks like the perfect opportunity to mix and mingle while the kiddos play and soak up stories.
Sometimes the simplicity of a summer walk is exactly what's needed. It's on my summer agenda to grab the stroller, load up on snacks and water, and hit the loop at Giralda Farms. I've lived in Madison a year and I've yet to do this so this seems like the perfect chance to step and stride with the stroller.
I'm having a full-fledged love affair with the Farmers Market this summer. My toddler is a big fan of live music so we often stroll and shop the market and sit down for a song or two before the walk home. With toddler sized chairs , it feels extra special for her and it's a nice break for me.
And while it costs me $4.00, I'm also determined to bring the kiddos to Tiny Tots Tuesdays. Kids are free and the quaintness and quietness of Sunrise Beach can't be beaten. Located in Morris Township, it's right next door and something easy but exciting.
Here's to the places and people who make free or low-cost fun available. Let's soak up summer and all the antics and adventures that accompany us in the days to come.
