Coo Coo For Cocoa!

Okay - I'll admit it - I'm a cocoa junkie. But I'm not talking about that grainy powder that comes in packets that you add hot water to. What Swiss miss in her right mind would drink that? It doesn't even taste like chocolate - it's artificial everything resulting in sweetness, but no depth. Forget that, I'm talking about cocoa made from real cocoa - deep, dark, rich and delicious. The way cocoa is supposed to be. But who has time to make a pot whenever you just need a quick fix?

You do!

What?

Yup - now that I'm giving you the secret recipe to make your own cocoa mix. In just a few minutes you can make up a canister that will last you a good long time - or at least a week if you love cocoa as much as I do.

It's up to you if you share this recipe or the resulting elixir with your family. If you decide to keep it as your secret stash that gets you through winter with a smile on your face, I won't tell!

Here's the simple recipe:

Cocoa Mix Total time - 10 minutes Makes 18 servings

1 1/2 cups unsweetened cocoa 1 1/4 c sugar 1 c semi-sweet chocolate chips 1/4 tsp salt

Blend all ingredients in a food processor. Store in a tightly sealed container at room temperature for up to 6 months.

To turn it into a magic elixir: For each serving, put 3 TBS mix and a splash of hot water into a microwave safe mug. Stir until cocoa dissolves a bit. Top with milk, and microwave until hot - usually  1 1/2 - 2 minutes. Stir until mixed, then find a fireplace to curl up next to and sip away.

The best part? There's usually a layer of thick chocolate on the bottom - yum! Enjoy!

And just a thought -

Do you find yourself always running out of milk? If so - check into getting home delivery! Yes - the old fashioned milkman of yesterday still exists. I've had mine for over 20 years, and it just simplifies life. (Full disclosure - I just recently stopped getting milk, but my kids are older now. When they were young - it was a lifesaver!) I used Quality Dairy here in NJ (milkman732@comcast.net),but google home milk delivery and see what you find.

Enjoy the colder weather!
