The Arts Matter in Madison, NJ
I never cease to be amazed by the talent right here in Madison. Tonight (at 7pm) is a great chance to see what our teachers and administrators can do at The Arts Matter, a benefit concert and art exhibit at Madison High School. Teachers, staffers and administrators from all of our public schools -- 22 of them to be exact -- will show off their talent either by performing or through their visual art.
I went to this concert two years ago on a whim -- I had helped getting some publicity for it in my role at Madison Music & Arts, our parent-run arts supporting organization in town. But I was really impressed by these teachers. There are so many accomplished musicians here -- they do broadway quality singing, rock out (sometimes with a few parents) like they're opening for Bruce Springsteen at the Stone Pony and play classical pieces as if they are in Carnegie Hall.
Each school's music programs are represented, and the impressive work of the visual art teachers is also on display. All for just $1o ( $5 for students and staff) and you can buy tickets right at the door. Our new Superintend and Mark Schwarz and Curriculum Director Dan Ross will also be on stage I'm hearing! Don't miss out.
This number will be reprised:
Yes that is Mr. Sabatino on Bass and a cameo by Mr. Oswin and his notorious Hamlet/skull mug. Mr. Malloy on keys! You gotta love it.
