Alvin Ailey Dance Company
May 11 - 13th, Various Times
You won't want to miss Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater’s 20th anniversary engagement at NJPAC, dazzling programs that combine new works with masterpieces like Revelations. America’s premier modern dance company, Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater is known around the world for its vibrant fusion of modern dance, ballet and other styles. All programs at NJPAC will include the full-length Revelations, Ailey’s signature masterpiece that pays tribute to African-American cultural heritage, set to set to spirituals and blues. New Jersey premieres this season are Jamar Roberts’ Members Don’t Get Weary, set to music by jazz legend John Coltrane; Talley Beatty’s Stack-Up, with songs from the disco era by Earth, Wind & Fire and others.
Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater grew from a now-fabled performance in March 1958 at New York City’s 92nd Street Y. Led by Alvin Ailey and a group of young African-American modern dancers, that performance forever changed the perception of American dance.
